The Donnie Solomon Pro AM Memorial Surf Contest February 7-8th at Seaside Park Ventura California.

A great contest for a great cause in Ventura California brought together some of the best surfers in the world. The Donnie Solomon Pro AM Memorial Surf Contest is part of the USSF Championship tour and is also a fund raising charity event to raise money for the Red Cross. Donnie who died in 1995 in Hawaii on a 40-foot plus wave was a member of the Red Cross. The USSF, Red Cross, and Donnie dad Randy put together the event to honor one of surfing’s great boarders and to raise money for an organization that he had dedicated his life to.   Saturday was the Pro competition and Sunday the Amateur heats ran. For a list of all the final standings please visit our USSF friends at www.ussfwesternregion.org.   Rodney Roller, Ron Warren, and myself all got there early and competed in various other divisions. Rodney made it to the finals of the Men’s open longboard and ended up coming in Fourth overall. The Prosthetic Division ran in the Afternoon, and once again by the time we got to hit the waves for competition things were pretty blown out. Ron was the star of the afternoon catching a couple of great looking rights, which earned him a first place finish. Rodney came in second with some nice rides as well, and I finished up the heat with a couple of good waves to come in third.
