Toes Over the Nose

A tribute to the great surf legend Mike Haley, who made riding the nose of a surf board childs play, the second annual Toes Over the Nose got started in the early hours of a beautiful Pismo Beach Morning. As the sun peaked over the hills surfers were already out making last minute ding repairs, prepping their boards for the day with a fresh coating of wax, and swapping stories about his/her perfect wave.

The contest was kicked off by the Amps Division. Surf Champion Rodney Roller, a right below knee amputee, and Dana Cummings, a left below knee amputee. The two started with a bit of a bang literaly, on the first wave after a great push off Roller was forced right (darn shortboarders) and him and Cummings tapped noses. The two quickly recovered, and Roller was able to catch 5 impressive waves, three quality rights a left, and A very impressive finishing left. Cummings made one other good ride and then got himself caught to far on the outside and didn't catch another nice left until the red flag flew and was coming in on the inside. Roller and Cummings got a second chance to shine in the Mens division. though placing third and fourth in this heat Roller and Cummings caught several quality waves, and Cummings was able to redeem himself with a good showing in this heat catching 5 waves.

After getting to watch some great talent mastering the waves the party moved on to Long Boarders Grill were our host from the contest had the Dentures classic rock band putting out clissic surf licks for the crowd to enjoy. Raudel Barba our Contest Organizer announced the winners of all the heats and raffled off several great items, One of witch was a Jerry Lopez autograph which our very own Rodney Roller won.

A great day of surfing with some great talent shining in the water, A truly great tribute to the man who was the true master of riding the nose and hangin' the toes Mike Haley. Thank you Raudel, and for organizing another great event, and we look forward to being a part of the contest again in the future.
