News Coverage of Challenged athletes at Dukes Oceanfest

Ampsurf co-founders Dana Cummings and Rodney Roller were invited to compete in the first ever challenged athletes division at this years Dukes's Oceanfest held in Wakiki, Hawaii. Our friends at Accessurf Hawaii organized the division, and brought in all of the competitors from Hawaii and the Mainland. Competition for the Challenged athletes divisions started Thursday with two heats. One for those who could stand and one for lay downs, and wave-ski's. Rodney Roller of Ampsurf  took 1st and Amy Bronn  of San Diego took 2nd in the Stand-up heat and Rich Julian took 1st and John C. took 2nd in the lay down wave-ski heat. These four will be competing on Saturday August 22nd for Champion of the first ever challenged athletes division at Duke's Oceanfest.

The Dukes Oceanfest has been a yearly event here to honor one of surfing's greatest legend's Duke Kahanamoku considered to be the father of surfing. All week long there has been celebrations to honor the Duke, Luau's Paddle outs and many other events. Sunday with a Parade in his honor and closing ceremonies.
